Tigers sweep twin bill in Fall finale
AUBURN, Ala. (auburntigers.com) – The Auburn softball team wrapped up its annual fall schedule with a pair of victories over Columbus State and Northwest Florida State in a doubleheader on Saturday night at Jane B. Moore Field.
“I saw some good things,” said head coach Clint Myers. “We finally got movement in the right direction with our youngsters. We’re moving in the right direction. We’re starting to understand what the terms mean. It was a good day for us.”
KK Crocker and Carlee Wallace led the offense on the night as the two combined to reach base safely in all 13 plate appearances. Crocker finished the day going 4-for-4 with five runs, three walks, one double and an RBI. Wallace also went 4-for-4, but added two home runs and have five RBI.
Kendall Veach followed suit as she popped four hits, including one home run and contributed five RBI.
On the basepaths, Brittany Maresette scored five runs and Casey McCrackin crossed the plate three times in the two contests.
Auburn saw all five of its pitchers see significant action in the circle. Makayla Martin paced the staff and tossed 5.0 frames with three strikeouts, while Kaylee Carlson, who started both tilts, worked 4.0 stanzas with just three hits allowed and three strikeouts.
“It’s a great way to end the fall with people really starting to understand the process,” stated Myers. “When we come back [for the spring season], we’ll be process-oriented and we’re going to get after it. This has the makings of a good ball club. They’re working hard to make that happen. They want to win.”
The Tigers end the fall season with a perfect 8-0 record. With the end of play on Saturday, Auburn has also finished its open practice sessions until the spring season begins in 2017.
