Tuskegee wins home finale over Albany State

TUSKEGEE, Ala. (goldentigersports.com) —  Taliyana Bryant led a trio of players in double figure kills as the Tuskegee University Lady Golden Tigers closed out their home portion of their schedule with a 3-1 (21-25,25-19,26-24,25-22) victory over Albany State University in front of a raucous crowd on Senior Night.

Bryant finished with 11 kills on 34 total attacks, while hitting .206 on the night with her biggest kill setting up match point for the Lady Golden Tigers in set four.  Shakayia Wilson and Jessica Johnson each added 10 kills in the win.

Donovan Wingfield added eight kills in the match, with her final kill of the match sending the crowd in to a frenzy and handing Tuskegee the victory.

Janae Graham finished with match-high 44 assists, while Zahria Radford finished with 24 digs. Radford also added four service aces in the win, while Graham added a pair of aces.

“We played well as a team,” Tuskegee head coach Melissa Robinson said. “We had a period where we struggled, but the crowd really helped getting the girls back into the match. Winning tonight was big, not only for seeding in the tournament, but to show that we can play against teams from the East.”

Justice Howard led Albany State (13-13, 9-7 SIAC) with 13 kills, the lone player in double figures for the Lady Golden Rams. Jahkishma Soto led Albany State with 17 assists, while Ciara Chapman added 12.

Chelona Holmes led the Lady Golden Rams with 11 digs, while Soto added 10 in the loss.

The match was the final home match for seniors Pamela Allen and Jacqueline Wilson, with the Lady Golden Tigers hitting the road for the final three matches of the regular season.
