Washington County’s playoff forfeit puts Samson back in postseason
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (ahsaa.com) — Washington County High School of Chatom has been fined, placed on probation for one year and ordered to forfeit its Class 2A first-round football playoff win over Samson for violating the AHSAA eligibility rules.
Washington County High School self-reported the violation to the AHSAA once notified of the potential infraction.
Washington County played an ineligible student in violation of the AHSAA Home Rule found on page 34 of the 2016-17 AHSAA Handbook. The school forfeited its first-round 42-12 playoff win over Samson in which the ineligible student participated in. Consequently, Samson High School is now advancing to the second round of the Class 2A state playoffs this week and will play Elba High School at Elba Friday night.
The probationary period is a warning that other violations of this nature could bring further sanctions against the school.
