Carnival Cruise Line Reopens in Alabama
Mobile’s cruise terminal has reopened for business, with a cruise ship at the dock and passengers at the gate.
The Press-Register reports Mayor Sandy Stimpson and Carnival President Christine Duffy cut a ceremonial ribbon, signifying the cruise terminal was back in operation after a five-year hiatus and more than $4 million in renovations and upgrades.
The Carnival Fantasy departed Wednesday, taking more than 2,000 passengers on the first cruise of a 13-month service contract.
Duffy said she was excited and very proud to be back Mobile.
She said she has high hopes for her company’s newest venture in Mobile, but cautioned that economic results will decide what happens at the end of the current 13-month contract.
