Lady Tarheels turn back Lady Hornets 84-54

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (bamastatesports.com) – Senior Britney Wright showed out with a big-time performance, but the Alabama State women’s basketball team opened the 2016-17 season with an 84-54 defeat at the University of North Carolina on Friday evening.

Wright, the Preseason SWAC Player of the Year, led ASU with a game-high 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the field with seven rebounds and two steals.

The rest of the Lady Hornets struggled to find their shot as the team collectively shot 31 percent from the field as the Tar Heels carried a 14-point lead after the end of the third quarter.

UNC opened it up in the fourth by outscoring ASU 29-13 in the last quarter.

Paris Kea scored 22 points and Stephanie Watts added 13 points and eight rebounds to lead UNC.

Next, ASU plays at Georgia Tech on Sunday at 1 p.m.
