From the West Alabama Newsroom–

A mother and daughter are dead after a house fire early Thursday morning in Selma.

Fire officials say a home in the 800 block of Pettus Street was fully involved when firefighters arrived on scene around 4:00 AM.

They say 44 year old Katrina Moore was pulled out of the house by police and taken to the hospital, where she later died.

They say Moore’s 20 year old wheelchair bound daughter, Coleman, didn’t make it out.

“Family was actually trying to bring her out the house when they became overcome by smoke and heat,” said Dallas County Coroner Alan Dailey. “She was found pretty much when the fire was extinguished inside the house.”

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
