Former Montgomery State Prison Guard headed to Federal Prison

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – A former Alabama prison guard has been sentenced to six years in federal custody for intending to smuggle drugs into the facility where he worked.

U.S. Attorney Louis V. Franklin Sr. says 29-year-old Antwan Giles was sentenced Thursday for possession with intent to distribute controlled substances.

Al.com reports Giles worked as a guard at Kilby Correctional Facility in Montgomery County for three years at the time of his arrest.

In January 2017, authorities say Giles brought food into the jail he intended to give to an inmate, a violation of department policy. Agents with the Alabama Department of Corrections then searched his vehicle after suspecting he was conspiring with an inmate to smuggle contraband into the prison. They found several packages of various drugs.
