ASU Marching Hornets To Perform At Rose Bowl Parade New Year’s Day

A big trip is right around the corner for members of the Alabama State University marching band . The Mighty Marching Hornets will be leading the way this year for a New Year’s tradition; the 2019 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California.
“I’m telling everybody, you have to catch the parade from the beginning, said band director, Dr. James Oliver proudly “other wise you are going to miss the best band there is”.
ASU will be one of the few college marching bands to perform this year. Oliver called the trip a “dream come true” while sharing some of the groups itinerary, Wednesday. “This is a big after Christmas present for these guys and they are excited they are really excited” he said about his band members.
Thousands of spectators will line the parade route but Oliver says the group will also make several other special performances including a stop at a nursing home for seniors that aren’t able to attend the parade. That’s all apart of nearly a week of “unforgettable experiences” Oliver says, that would not be possible without the outpouring of community support.
“It’s not easy to raise 3 or 4 hundred thousand dollars to make this trip so it means a lot to our university but it represents so much because we’re representing the state of Alabama and we’re also representing the city of Montgomery ”
The Hornet band will be flying to Pasadena from Atlanta early Friday morning. The group is still accepting donations for the trip, if you’d like to give, you can find more info here.
