Political Analyst Steve Flowers Talks about Alabama Abortion Bill Debate
Alabama News Network Political Analyst Steve Flowers is weighing in on the debate over Alabama’s abortion bill. That bill would outlaw nearly all abortions in the state. It would make it a felony for a doctor to perform an abortion.
Flowers says if the bill passes the Legislature and is signed by Gov. Kay Ivey, it won’t hold up in court. Supporters of the bill hope to use it as a challenge to the Roe v. Wade decision which legalized abortion nationwide in 1973.
“The U.S. Supreme Court really doesn’t care if the Alabama legislature wants to pass some bizarre, right-wing, off the wall unconstitutional act. They probably aren’t going to take the time to even look at it. They’re probably going to throw it in the garbage can,” Flowers said.
