Robbery Turned Homicide at Brundidge Gas Station

Brundidge police officers are investigating a murder after a gas station clerk was found shot to death early Wednesday morning.

The homicide happened inside the Gulf gas station off Highway 10.

Neil Purush Kumar has been identified as the victim in the shooting. Kumar was a computer science graduate student at Troy University. University officials were notified of his death by Brundidge Police Department Wednesday morning.

“We are shocked and saddened by this act of violence and we extend our deepest condolences to Neil’s family and friends”, university officials stated.

The incident occurred around 6 A.M, a short time after the gas station opened.

Brundidge Police Chief Moses Davenport says the suspect started robbing the store,  took a small amount of cash, shot Kumar at close range, and fled the scene.

Police have been reviewing surveillance and searching the grounds for evidence.

Davenport says investigators are still working to get a description of the suspect.

“After looking at, reviewing the camera system we saw where a male person entered the store with their hand gun, pointed at the clerk and went behind the counter,” Davenport says. “And, apparently, he just got aggravated because the clerk seemed to be very cooperative, and he shot him.”

The Pike County Sheriff’s Department is assisting in the investigation.
