Teachers Prepare To Welcome Pike Road Students Back Next Week

Most students in the Montgomery area have headed back to class but Pike Road students are still soaking up the last bit off summer vacation. Students won’t walk the halls until August 21st, but teachers on the other hand were fired up on their their first day back Monday.

About 125 teachers were at Pike Road Middle School bright and early  Monday morning,  getting ready to welcome students back next Wednesday.
Superintendent Dr. Chuck Ledbetter said this will be a big year for all 3 schools in the system, but especially Pike Road High School. In May 2020, the school will graduate it’s first ever senior class.

The former Georgia Washington Middle School has been in need of updates and repair since it was purchased from Montgomery Public Schools last year. The plan is to start this school year, “because we’re not using all of the classrooms”  Ledbetter explained. “They’ll do segments of the school that we don’t use and then we’ll move into is as they complete, and so over the course of the next 12 months they’ll be renovating the entire building” he said.

There are also plans to add brand new athletic fields at Pike Road High School. In total the price tag is about 14 million dollars. There is a bid for a contract to make renovations, it’s expected to be approved at a city council meeting Monday night.
