Convicted murderer David Kyle, who escaped custody in Montgomery last month, has been recaptured in North Alabama.

Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver says Kyle was arrested this morning by the U.S. Marshal’s Service, the Alabama Department of Corrections and sheriff’s office personnel, at a home in the Slackland Community.

Kyle, 49, was serving a 99-year prison sentence for the murder of a Cherokee County man in 1998. The murder happened in Etowah County.

He was assigned to the Alabama Department of Corrections Red Eagle Work Center in Montgomery when he escaped from custody on April 23.

Kyle has been taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center on charges of escape and will be held there until the Department of Corrections takes him back to prison.
