Mattie Davis is a Reporter/MMJ for Alabama News Network. Mattie joined the team in May 2021.

Mattie is a May 2021 graduate of the University of Alabama with a degree in News Media and a minor in Communication Studies. She was born and raised in the Montgomery area where she attended Bear Elementary and graduated from Alabama Christian Academy.

Mattie started her career in journalism and media after her freshman year of college interning with us at Alabama News Network. She later interned in news and sports at WBRC in Birmingham. In the fall of 2019, she began working as a production assistant at Crimson Tide Productions producing broadcasts for ESPN and SEC network while also working as an editor at WVUA 23 in Tuscaloosa. In 2020, Mattie began working on-air for Crimson Tide Productions and as a general assignment reporter for WVUA 23. During the summer of 2020 she interned with NBC News’ TODAY Show, working on COVID-19 research, digital content, and TODAY’s virtual plaza.

Outside of work Mattie likes to go on runs, visit coffee shops, and stay active in church. She is thankful to tell the stories of the capital city, River Region, and surrounding areas and serve the community that raised her. If you have a story idea, send it her way!

Camp Conquest Serving As Kids Summer Camp For Burn Survivors

Camp Conquest is a kid's summer camp for burn survivors, where campers meet with others who have been through similar experiences. The camp has been responding to the needs of pediatric burn survivors for over 20 years. Each summer, they host a week long experience at Children's Harbor on Lake Martin. Campers spend their days boating, swimming, and meeting other survivors. Alabama Fire Marshals from across the state volunteer as camp counselors.

Demolition begins this week on Tallassee High School, and alumni are looking back on their memories in the building.  In 1929, the first Tallassee students walked the halls of their current high school. This week the school system is saying goodbye to the building where memories were made for almost 100 years.
