History was honored in Tuskegee on Thursday, as the new Lucius D. Amerson highway was unveiled. Amerson was the first black elected sheriff in the south after reconstruction, in Macon county. Steven Reed Sworn-in as Montgomery’s First Black Mayor

Montgomery mayor-elect Steven Reed has officially been sworn-in as the city’s first black mayor. The city of Montgomery held an inauguration ceremony at the Montgomery Performing Arts Center in Downtown Montgomery. Nine of the newly elected city council members were also sworn-in.
